GLPS Press Release
10/6/99
This Year 2000 Statement is designated as a Year 2000 Readiness Disclosure pursuant to the Year 2000 Information and Readiness Disclosure Act.
Due to the concerns of our customers regarding the year 2000 computer bug and the reliability of electrical power in Greene County, we would like to provide the following update on our progress in this matter.
Employees at Greeneville Light & Power System, local power distributor for Greeneville and Greene County Tennessee, have completed testing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computers for Year 2000 (Y2K) readiness and are now running with year 2000 dates.
The SCADA computers monitor and control various substation and pole mounted devices throughout the GLPS service area. On October 1st this year, dates were accelerated to the year 2000 and no functional problems have been encountered.
Plans for the project were started early 1998 and implementation has gone very smoothly. We will continue to operate with accelerated dates until early January next year.
Also file server computers and most desktop personal computers used in our offices are running year 2000 dates with no problems reported.
On January 1st, we expect no power outages caused by Y2K bugs in GLPS equipment. For more information about the GLPS Y2K project, see our web page at www.glps.net or call our office at 636-6214.
