YEAR 2000 PROGRAM UPDATE - NOVEMBER 1999
With less than 60 days left until the transition to Year 2000, TVA continues
to maintain our position of readiness. The major accomplishments as of the end
of October are:
- Sixty-three Percent of TVA’s Power Generation Capacity Running in Year
2000 Mode
- TVA continues to operate 55 fossil units, 70 hydro units,
and all transmission substations and switchyards in Year 2000 mode.
- One Hundred Percent of all the Mission-Critical Business Partners Will Be
Ready
- At the end of October, 100 percent of all of TVA’s
mission-critical suppliers and customers have declared that they will be Year
2000 ready on or before December 31.
- Inspector General (IG) Completes the Integrated Business System (IBS)
Interface Audits
- The IG has concluded the audit of the IBS interfaces.
The findings were that five of the interfaces required additional testing and
that interface testing documentation needed improvement. These issues are
being resolved.
- Day One Planning Activities Shared with the Office of Management and
Budget (OMB
) - TVA has provided an outline of our Day One Planning
activities to the OMB.
- TVA Continues to Participate in the President’s Community Conversations
- The President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion is sponsoring Community
Conversations across the country to better inform the public about Year 2000.
TVA participated in the Chattanooga event on November 1.
- Software Application Freeze in Effect Starting November 1
-
Information Services has invoked a production software implementation freeze
starting November 1 to help ensure that the Year 2000 readiness of production
systems is not compromised through additional changes.
The Year 2000 Project Office continues to focus on the closure of the
remaining non-mission-critical items. The draft Year 2000 Business Continuity
Plan has been issued for review and comment to the Business Continuity Task
Force. The IG has initiated the final Year 2000 audit on agency and business
unit risk closure. A final internal communication drill is planned for December
8 to test the latest radio system upgrades. The Year 2000 Fact Sheet is attached
for your use in discussing our progress with employees, friends, and neighbors.
