Community HELP Update

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR GL&PS CUSTOMERS

Greeneville Light & Power System has established Community H.E.L.P. as a program to provide heat, electricity, and lighting assistance to Greeneville Light & Power Customers.  Pursuant to T.C.A. § 7-36-107(a)(12)(A), Community H.E.L.P. is currently funded through rounding up your monthly electric bill(s) to the next whole dollar amount (from 1¢ to 99¢per month) unless you opt-out your account(s) from the program.  Rounding up of monthly electric bills began March 25, 2020.  All Community H.E.L.P. proceeds are paid to the Greeneville-Greene County Community Ministry, Inc. (commonly known as the Food Bank) and are used by the Food Bank to assist the customers of Greeneville Light & Power with their power bills and to provide firewood through the Greene County Firewood Ministry without any administrative fees or charges.

You have the right to opt-out any or all of your GL&PS accounts from this program by giving GL&PS notice of your exercise of this right to opt-out.  Notice may be given to GL&PS of your decision to opt-out by:

  • Advising a GL&PS customer service representative in person at our 110 North College Street office and verifying with the representative the applicable account number(s).
  • Advising a GL&PS customer service representative by telephone at 423-636-6200 and verifying with the representative the applicable account number(s).
  • Emailing the main office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with a statement that you want to opt-out your account(s) identified by account number.

Your account number is listed on your monthly bill.

If you exercise your right to opt-out of this program on or before October 31, 2020, you will have the further option of receiving a refund of any previous rounded up amounts paid by you for the program.  After October 31, 2020, no refund of previous payments will be made.  If you choose to opt-out, your account’s enrollment will be removed no later than the first day of the account’s next regular billing cycle that begins no fewer than thirty (30) days after the date of your opt-out notice.
