Position Job Title: Broadband Installation Specialist II        

Pay Range: Hourly    

Title of Supervisor: Broadband Outside Plant Engineer   

Position Summary:

  • Assist with all aspects of the head-end, network, hub, NOC, and other system operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee fiber installations with GEA contractors and employees.
  • Perform and assist with the installation of fiber to subscriber premises (backbone and drops).
  • Perform and assist with customer service calls. 
  • Perform necessary wiring for system components.
  • Records work activity accurately, accounting for all manpower, equipment and materials used to complete the project assigned, reporting to management in detail
  • Assist with ONT provisioning as needed.
  • Assist with inventory management.
  • Ensure vehicles are well stocked with tools, material, and inventory.
  • Troubleshoot and repair network fiber plant.
  • Perform documentation and certification of customer services and equipment.
  • Assist technician and installers to assure all job functions are completed professionally and in a timely manner in accordance with customer expectations and company policy.
  • Maintain all records and reports for strict adherence to and proper documentation of network performance.
  • Oversee, inspect and provide quality checks on Communication contracted projects, installations, safety and service to assure compliance with GEA standards.
  • Prepare all required reports and documentation required to fulfill responsibilities of position.
  • Adhere and comply with all scheduling for standby support to NOC and helpdesk as needed.
  • Subject to overtime on a short notice.
  • Communicate with customers, staff, peers, vendors, and other telecommunications partners.
  • Schedule and complete maintenance work with vendors and other partners of IRU fiber.
  • Ability to maintain reliable, predictable and reasonable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
  • Possess adequate reading ability to interpret written/printed information on maps, diagrams, and schematics, work orders, service improvement requests, safety manuals, and related items.
  • Possess adequate written language ability to complete time sheets or material sheets and to record information on maps, and forms regarding placement of equipment, etc.
  • Possess adequate mathematical ability (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Possess intermediate computer skills, knows and applies the full range of concepts and practices of the field, enter timesheets, to make inquiries on our mapping system, and correspond via email.
  • Possess organizational, influencing, customer service, and problem solving skills.
  • Possess leadership abilities and be able to work as a member of a team.
  • Communicate frequently in a professional manner with internal and external persons
  • Competencies must include analytical, computer, communication, and coordinating skills.
  • Must be able to stay abreast of new technology to ensure best practices for operations.
  • Coordinate the work of Fiber crews and contractors in repair and installations of fiber optic customer premise installations. (Position has no authority in tangible employment actions including hiring, firing, promoting, reassigning significantly different tasks, or causing changes to benefits but may be involved in directing day-to-day operations of employees).

Minimum Required Qualification:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates degree in technical field preferred; equivalent experience in OSP Broadband Installations may substitute for education.
  • Five years of progressive experience in Broadband installations.
  • Prior specialized training, certifications, and experience in Broadband or fiber optics preferred.

Position Summary:

  • Responds to subscriber inquiries and provides support via telephone, email, written correspondence, or face-to-face regarding internet & voice service regarding service requests
  • Educate prospects on product & service.
  • Schedules installs and trouble calls.   
  • Maintains accurate and complete fiber account records. 
  • Serves as point of contact for complex issues and requests.
  • Maintains responsibility for fiber billing, disconnects, and may execute government programs relative to provider services.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities relative to assuring customer satisfaction with broadband services. 
  • Maintains complete responsibility for coordinating customer contact activities relating to broadband services
  • Promotes a positive subscriber experience.
  • Identifies prospective subscribers and revenue growth opportunities
  • Meet sales activity goals
  • Develop sales strategies
  • Supports efforts to increase residential and business subscriber take rates and retention.
  • Deliver sale presentation as necessary
  • Maintains relationships with existing and potential customers. 
  • Ability to communicate with the public effectively
  • Ability to provide outstanding Customer Service to the public

Minimum Required Qualification:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Three to five years of Customer Service & Sales experience
